Polaroid Cameras // Mixed Feelings

by - 08:00

Polaroid cameras are everywhere lately aren't they? That's because they are damn fun and a cool way to document your life! Don't get confused when I say I have mixed feelings, I absolutely love them! I've had the old school Polaroid for about three years now, and the Fujifilm Instax for one and a half. I've taken a fair few pictures with both of them, and love that I can have an instant keep sake in this cute little frame that you can write on, and the whole idea that you're not sure how it's going to turn out. I get it, it's exciting and different when we are used to the digital age of photography, where we can take unlimited photos without thinking or any consequence instead of having to pick and choose.
And that is where my slight problems lye.

I'm a cheap skate at heart, I love a bargain and if I can save money, I will. And whenever I pick up my Polaroid cameras I always find myself over thinking the idea of how precious and expensive the film is. I want to make sure that when I use it it is for the best moments and that they are special, other wise I could just use my phone, right?
This is an okay idea really, it kind of makes sense, but I've got to the stage where I have just stopped using it, as I analyse every photo opportunity too much and then the moment is gone and I put the camera away. I can't shake the idea that each little cute Polaroid is worth a pound, and that I could easily get through a pack of ten if I wasn't careful.

Does anyone else feel like this? I'm constantly battling between the idea of just going for it and just enjoy the outcomes. Maybe ask for loads of film for birthdays and Christmas' and then I guess that solves the problem, but I don't know.
I think I'm going to mainly use them for big events. So when I go on holidays, have special days out with friends and weekends away with the boyfriend, rather than for everyday use.
They do produce some damn fine results though... I just wish they weren't so expensive!
