25 Before 25 - Recap and Review

by - 17:37

About a year and a half ago, I wrote a post about Twenty Five things that I wanted to achieve, improve and have a go at before I reached the (scary) age of Twenty Five. It turns out, that that time has flown by, and I am due my quarter life crisis on Monday (When, how, whattttt?!) So I thought I would revisit that post, and see if I have actually stuck to the things that I wanted to have sorted out by now. I'll be honest, I'm a little bit scared, so lets see if I've been mildly productive shall we?

I'm going to write my new answers/recap in a different font and in blue, so you can see the difference in my old answer, and what I have actually achieved to date.

1.  Move out / be super close to moving out!

Dayle and me are super desperate to move out. It would be so fun and exciting to come home to each other and try and figure out how to do the whole adult thing, and to have our own space. We have started saving for a deposit on a flat or house, but it's going to take time. Hopefully by the time I turn Twenty Five, we will be a lot more closer to moving out and in together! Because this will make me very happy :)

We are definitely a lot closer to moving out than we were when I originally wrote this post, and I'm really happy with our progress! I'd say we are about 2/3 of the way there, and will hopefully be able to start looking at places in about 10 months, with our planned deposit. We might have spent a fair amount of money that could have helped us move out sooner on a holiday, but it is going to be worth it! And we have worked so hard saving, that we deserve it :)

2.  Save up

This kind of carries on from point one, but saving up is a good habit to get into, and it will always come in handy even if not for moving out. I want to try and save as much as I can to spend it on necessary things, rather than spend my money on materialistic things.

Yep, like I said above, I have been pretty damn good at saving my pennies, and have 100% become a cheap skate and will refuse to spend my money unless I really need to. I've treated myself a few times, but I've mainly been a good girl!

3.  Continue blogging

I'm pretty sure I won't give up on blogging, because I enjoy it so much, but I guess you never know with life and other things in the way, but I really hope I am still blogging!

Obviously I am still blogging.... as I'm writing this post! I'll admit that I have thought about giving it up a few times, as I feel like I'm not really getting anywhere, or noticed at all. But I just couldn't bring myself to actually stop, as I still love it so much. I've decided that I am blogging for myself, and for my memories, and if people want to read it, then great! If not, I'll continue until I don't enjoy it anymore.

4. Take better photographs

I've been interested in cameras for years and have an art degree, but I still don't know how to properly use my camera, I really need to work on this. ✓ / X

Ehh, this one is yes and no. I've definitely made a conscious effort to improve my photography on this blog, and my Instagram and think that I have done this quite well, but on the other hand, I still don't really know how to use my camera anymore than I did before. Oops. This is still on my to do list! Maybe before I'm 30? aha (oh god that's scary!)

5.  Travel a bit more

I want to visit new places and go on adventures while I'm (fairly) young, so by Twenty Five, I would have loved to have gone to at least Two new places and see new things. X /

Again this one has kind of been achieved... but not really. Since I wrote the original post, I have been to Northumberland and Edinburgh, so I guess that counts, But I probably meant more abroad new places, but I am going to America for the first time in a couple of months, so I'm working on it!

6.  Gain more of an audience?

I mainly write this blog for myself at the moment, and I have a teeeenyyy following but I would love to have more people read my blog, and to make some blogging friends. X

Nah, just nah. I've definitely tried harder to get myself out there than I was before, but It is so hard to get noticed in such a saturated blogging world. I think I have a few more followers on my social media, but I don't really know if they are 'real' followers or not. So this one is definitely a bit of a fail. But I will keep trying :)

7.  Make money creatively (even if only on the side / part time)

This week marked the first time that I have properly made money from something creative that I made, and it felt good :). I would really love to be a lot closer to being more creatively independent and using my Art degree. I would love to be able to say that I am somewhat self employed. I need to practice my drawing and painting, and explore trying to sell these or gain commissions!  X

This is the one I would probably have liked to achieve the most, but unfortunately not. I did have a brief time where I was selling pillows quite regularly on Ebay, but once the Christmas period was over, they stopped selling. I'm going to try and start this up again, and practice drawing again too, as i really miss it. It's just about finding the time though.

8.   Love and appreciate

Be grateful for all the things that I have and for the lovely people I have in my life and spread the love!

I try to do this all the time anyway, but I've made more of a conscious effort to remember what I have and how grateful I am over the last year, and spend more time with family and friends. I can still do better, as everyone could, with life getting in the way, and the occasional bad day were I feel sorry for myself. But I am human!

9.  Do something for charity

A few years back my sister and I did a 10k run for charity, and I keep meaning to do something like this again. It was fun and it's always good to help out. X

Nope, I still haven't done this, oops. I've donated to charity a few times? aha. I'll do this soon, promise!

10.  Get a tattoo

I really want a tattoo!... but I'm a bit scared aha. I've been thinking about it for ages, but I need to figure out what I want and build up the courage to get one. X

Nope. I have been thinking more seriously about it recently, and know more about what I would want. But I'm still pretty scared of needles and the idea of it...

11.  Find a job that I enjoy or love (and not work weekends!)

I hate my job. I need a full time job. I want to enjoy my job, if it's not too much, maybe even love it, and I totally want my weekends back so I can see people!  ✓ / X

Yes and no for this one. I do have a different job now and it is full time. It's a lot better than my old job that I hated when I wrote the original post, yet it's still not that great, or what I want to be doing. It is easy, and simple and It's allowing me to save up to move out, so it's not all bad! An improvement at least!

12.  Eat healthier

Food is amazing, but I eat way too much crap, and I would like to fix this at least a little bit.

I actually do eat quite a bit healthier now, as much as I thought I never would. I drink a lot more water because I'm at work all day. I eat better snacks and my dinners were always okay. I snack a bit still, and obviously will always love sweets and chocolate but I've got better at this!

13.  Improve my HTML skills and my blog layout!

I've been meaning to sort out my blog layout, but it takes wayyy too long because I don't really know what I'm doing, so I would love to have a layout and skills that I am happy with by then.

I've improved my layout a bit, it's not perfect, but It's getting there. I'm not great at HTML still, but I've learnt a bit more now.

14.  Keep in contact with old friends and make new friends

I'm getting to that age where friends part ways because life gets in the way. We are slowly moving further apart, and getting permanent jobs and I really don't want to loose touch. One of the main things I want to stick to in this list is making more of an effort, with friends, family, life, blogging, just in general. I want to know that I have tried my hardest!

Yeahhhh, I've been alright with this. I've made more effort to see friends and keep in contact, especially with my family. I could still be better, because I'm naturally a loner and I'm always trying to do something, I often forget, so I'm gonna keep working on this some more.

15.  Be settled and content in my life

I'm also at the age where I'm pretty much freaking out about where I am going and am confused about what I want to do. So I would love to be content and settled with most things and working towards what I want to do and achieve.  / X

I still have no idea what I want to do with my life... but I'm kind of content about it? haha. I'm slowly figuring out career ideas and everything else is going alright, that'll do for now.

16.  Experiment more with my 'image', life is too short right?

Style wise I can be a bit boring sometimes. I've always been an admirer or people with crazy style and colourful hair, but never really felt brave enough to do it for myself. I'm slowly working towards dying my hair lighter so I can put colours in it, so at least that is one step! X

I dyed my hair kind of white.... about a month ago. But apart from that I've not really done this. I still like the idea of trying out different hair colours, and trying a new fashion style, but this one contradicts with earlier points about saving money. I decided to only spend little bits of money on trying new stuff, so the change hasn't been that great.

17.  Be more creative, creating things for my home!

Like I said above I want to try and be more creative and figure out a way to make some sort of income out of this, but I also really want to just make things in general! My excitement for moving out grows pretty much everyday and I have all these ideas for home DIY's, so I would love to slowly build up a box of things I have made to have in our future flat and put around my room :) X

Nope. I just simply have't had the time or the space to do this. I've found things on Pinterest that I want to make, and I have ideas. For practical reasons, I will probably have to wait until we actually move in to a place to get the space to create things.

18.  Sell most of my old stuff / clothes!

A while ago I sorted out my wardrobes and have a load of things that I'm trying to sell to make a bit of money for moving out, so I would love to have actually sold all of this unwanted crap before then!  / X

Ehhh.... I've sold a few bits, and I've sorted out what I want to sell, and taken other things to the charity shop, but as soon as I got a full time job, I stopped having the time to put things on Ebay. This is one of my main priorities at the moment though, so hopefully by the time I actually do move out, I will have done this!

19.  See a show at the west end.

I've only ever seen one show, and that was The Lion King when I was 11.... so I would like to see some more, especially Billy Elliot :D

Yessss, I actually completed one! haha. Dayle bought us both tickets to see Billy Elliot for my birthday last year. (He totally read this post, thanks Dayle!) And I really loved it :) And hopefully we can go see more in the future!

20.  Go on little weekends away with Dayle

Because why not! X

We went away with family for a week, but not anywhere just the two of us for a nice weekend away. We are going to America for two weeks soon though, sooooo...

21.  Get more organised

Seriously. I can be very easily distracted, and if I want to start achieving all these things I need to organise myself!

Thanks to the Bullet Journal system and writing down all my to do lists in it everyday, I am a lot more organised now! I at least get two or three things done a day that I want to do, even if it is slowly chipping away at a big job. Yay me!

22.  Make regular YouTube videos

I enjoy making them, and it's another way to be creative :) X

I did make some videos for a while, but they were in no way regular and I've not actually made or uploaded one in about a year now, which is a shame. I have been thinking about starting it up again, and have a few mental video ideas, but my tripod is currently broken, and like I've said so many times already, I don't have enough time... I might give it one last try though, because it's a shame, as I really enjoyed making them.

23.  Do something completely out of my comfort zone

Something crazy like sky diving or swimming with dolphins! I just think it would be so fun and such a story to tell :D  X /

Not Yetttt, but I will be swimming with dolphins when we go to America :D Which I am so so excited about!

24.  Enjoy life, and don't do things that I don't want to.

Why do things that make you unhappy when you don't have to?
I want to be able to say that I am happy, and I have done things my own way! X /

It's hard to always do things your own way, when you have to go to work to earn money, and it's not your passion, and you still live at home with your parents. But honestly, it's not too bad. I have adopted more of a care less attitude to what others think about me, which I guess is partly the way there.

25.  Be happy

The main thing, that I have always said is that I want to be happy, and I hope that the next year and a bit brings a lot of happiness!

I might not have completed everything on this list, and some of them not at all, but you know what? I am happy, and the past year and a bit has been pretty damn good. I have great friends, family and a lovely boyfriend. I kind of know where my life is going and I have plans and aspirations for my future, and nothing bad has happened to me. That's not too shabby is it?

✓ = 10

X = 8

 X / ✓ = 7

I've completed more than I have failed, so that's alright I guess. I'm not completely sorted with these things but I'm definitely on my way! So I'm pretty happy with that :)
